Earlier this week the Las Vegas Raiders tried to get linebacker Christian Ellis, who was a restricted free agent of the New England Patriots. And, after submitting an offer to Elliss, it seemed like he would be wearing silver and black in 2025.
But, we were all wrong in that estimation. The Patriots matched the Raiders' offer sheet, and now he's returning to New England, as the Patriots blocked the Raiders on a potentially big signing. So, the Raiders have been left high and dry looking for someone to start next to Elandon Roberts, the new Raiders LB and former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker.
So, on Friday, the Raiders ended up signing a guy. Now, whether he ends up being the starter or not is still to be seen.
Raiders sign LB Devin White
According to Jordan Schultz, on Friday, the Las Vegas Raiders signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Houston Texans linebacker Devin Whit to a one-year deal.
White is not what he once used to be.
White made an impact as a rookie with 91 tackles and two touchdown returns in 13 games. In 2020, he had a breakout year with 140 tackles and 9 sacks, earning second-team All-Pro honors. That season, he helped the Buccaneers win Super Bowl LV against the Kansas City Chiefs, sealing the game with an interception and adding 12 tackles. Over five years with Tampa Bay, he recorded 566 tackles and 23 sacks, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2021.
In 2024, White signed with the Eagles but didn’t play, getting released after four weeks. He then joined the Texans, debuting in Week 8 with three tackles. Now, he could be a starter with the Texans, but that is a best-case scenario type of deal here. I think this is a depth signing for cheap, but one that has a bit of potential there.
Who knows what will happen, but it certainly doesn't change the fact that they still may draft one in the 2025 NFL Draft.
