Las Vegas Raiders coach Antonio Pierce has not ruled out defensive end Maxx Crosby for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos. Crosby missed his first career game last weekend due to a high-ankle sprain and was limited in practice on Friday.
Running back Alexander Mattison is increasingly likely to start against the Broncos, as regular starter Zamir White is not expected to play due to a groin injury.
Pierce mentioned that Mattison was set for more carries after rushing for 60 yards on five attempts against the Cleveland Browns. White has struggled with a 3.1 yards-per-carry average compared to Mattison’s 5.1.
Rookie Tommy Eichenberg, who was drafted in the fifth round from Ohio State, will make his first start since fellow linebackers Divine Deablo (oblique) and Luke Masterson (knee) are out.
“He’s a good complement to (linebacker) Robert Spillane,” Pierce said. “A smart kid. He’s hard-nosed. He’ll make some rookie mistakes, but he does play 100 mph.”
Pierce was also asked about wide receiver Davante Adams, who is missing his second straight game due to a hamstring injury and has reportedly requested a trade.
“That’s handled on the third floor,” Pierce said. “I’m focused on the Denver Broncos, getting my team prepared and ready to play. We’re excited about that. We’re ready for it. So everything else will handle itself. I’ll handle the grass. (General manager Tom) Telesco will handle everything else.”
