The Los Angeles Lakers improved to 2-0 in the 2024-25 season following a stunning 123-116 win over the Phoenix Suns on Friday, The Lakers seemed down and out when the Suns led by as many as 22 points in the second quarter but managed to storm back and win with relative ease at the end.
Anthony Davis was the star of the show for the Lakers yet again. Davis had 35 points, eight rebounds, four assists, one steal, and two blocks in the contest and went 11-18 from the field and 13-17 from the line. Lakers fans on X were in awe of their star big man and the team following this display.
"Give us the ring," one Lakers fan wrote.
"Give AD the MVP right now," said one fan following another dominant outing for Davis.
"We are so back. Loving the JJ Redick head coach era," said a Lakers fan who is loving life under new head coach JJ Redick.
"2-0 (first time) since 2010-2011 season. That is wild. Excited for this team. We just seem so different with JJ," said one Lakers fan who believes Redick has transformed this team.
"This team is special," a fan wrote.
Don't think anyone can blame Lakers fans for being excited at this point. The JJ Redick hire was questioned by most and I had my doubts about him too, but the early signs are promising. He seems to be getting the best out of Davis, in particular, but the big man was far from the only positive for them on the night.
Austin Reaves bounced back from a disappointing showing in the opener against the Timberwolves by putting up 26 points, four rebounds, eight assists, three steals, and one block. Reaves had struggled with his shot coming into this game but went 8-12 from the field and 5-7 from beyond the arc to get back on track.
As for LeBron James, he had 21 points, four rebounds, and eight assists. The Lakers are winning against quality competition despite James not being at his devastating best, which is a good sign. When he does start to get on a roll, teams better watch out. The Lakers will take on the Sacramento Kings next on Saturday and will be keen to make it three wins on the spin.
For the Suns, meanwhile, this was a brutal loss. Their offense was flowing beautifully early on and they were raining down threes on the Lakers. After the midway point of that second quarter, though, the offense started to stall a bit, and the threes stopped falling too. Once the Lakers managed to cut their lead down to single digits, you could only really see one winner in the contest.
Durant was once again the top performer for the Suns, finishing with 30 points, four rebounds, six assists, and one block. Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, meanwhile, got off to good starts but went cold later on and finished with 23 and 15 points respectively.
There were some positives to take from this game for the Suns, but, in all, it was a disappointing night. They are now 1-1 on the season and take on the Dallas Mavericks next.
