The first day of work is always tough for new employees to learn new processes and be able to contribute from day one. Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Kyle McCord got to experience those first-day jitters when he arrived at work.

Players started arriving for rookie camp, and McCord was among the first to sign his contract with the Eagles. He also got his new jersey number, as he was assigned number 19.

Philadelphia selected McCord in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft after he had finished playing his college ball at Ohio State and Syracuse. Introductions have just begun for McCord as he gets to meet and spend some time with the man he will back up this season: Jalen Hurts.

Kyle McCord hopes to win at the pro level by reapplying what he learned in the NCAA.

McCord and other Eagles rookies spent time with the media on Friday. That allowed the young QB to share his first interactions with Hurts upon his arrival at rookie minicamp.

"He texted me after the draft, and then (I) met him yesterday for the first time in person. So he's great. Like I was saying, I want to be a sponge around him and soak up as much as I can."

McCord hopes to have a similar experience to his first at Ohio State and learn from current Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud. He is also steadfast in developing his relationship with Hurts and understanding the dynamic of his preparation and work habits.

"When I was at Ohio State, it was C.J. (Stroud). Sat behind him for two years. It was me asking questions, and he was just an open book, which was nice, and he let me sit in and watch his preparation, and there wasn't a question that I couldn't ask. You know, just kind of feeling it out for what he wants, honestly, and like I said earlier, just being a sponge. Like everything I can pick up from him, I'm going to try to do that."

McCord didn't get his first full season starting with the Buckeyes until 2023, when he threw for 3,170 yards and 24 touchdowns to six interceptions. Last year, he transferred to Syracuse, where he led the nation in completions (391), pass attempts (592), and passing yards (4,779).

The Eagles have a good history of drafting quarterbacks from Syracuse, the last one being Donovan McNabb. Philadelphia ended up having a stellar run with McNabb for 11 seasons, with five NFC Championship appearances and a Super Bowl appearance in that span.

Philadelphia will have stiff competition at quarterback behind Hurts, as McCord will have to fend off Tanner McKee and Dorian Thompson-Robinson in training camp. McKee was another late-round draft pick that the Eagles have succeeded with, so they hope to have found a diamond in the rough with McCord.
