Knicks Coach Mike Brown Sums Up Jalen Brunson in 1 Word

The New York Knicks are heading into their 2025-26 season with a new look, thanks to having a new head coach in Mike Brown, but many of the team’s previous players remain intact. One of the challenges for Brown will be to work with the same players but get different and better results.

It’s not like the New York Knicks have experienced bad seasons lately, though. They made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals last season and then lost to the Indiana Pacers, but even not going all the way, it was a solid season. Now, Brown is at the helm, and he’ll work with players like Jalen Brunson to see if he can get this team over the hump that it hasn’t been able to get over.

Now, Brown is opening up about his new team and had an apt way to describe Brunson.

Mike Brown Talks Jalen Brunson

Brown met with the New York media for the first time on Tuesday, July 8, and in doing so, he discussed a plethora of issues about the team, both good and not so good. His chat gave some insight into what he hopes the Knicks will bring this upcoming season.

When Brown headed up the Kings, he was known for pushing them to be a fast team. The Knicks, on the other hand, have been a slow team when it comes to pace under Thibodeau. So, Brown was asked about how he would make his preferred pace with the Knicks come to fruition.

Brunson is also known for his pace, and he’s actually known for slowing things down on the court. Brown was asked how Brunson’s style will work with Brown, and he was quick to give the star player a compliment.

Brown summed up Brunson’s talent in one word: versatility. A versatile and dynamic player can go a long way.

“The first thing is, everybody knows I like to play fast,” Brown told the media. “Like I said, we have an outstanding roster. I’m excited about that. And to have a guy like Jalen out there gives you the versatility to play all different types of ways, which is what it’s going to take throughout the course of a ball game. ”

An Interesting Prediction for the New York Knicks

Another one of the Knicks’ more high-profile players is Josh Hart, but now, some think he will be benched in the upcoming season. In a Tuesday, July 8, feature for The Daily Knicks, Atticus O’Brien-Pappalardo discusses Brown’s coaching outlook and brings up that he might bench Hart.

“When asked how his view on basketball has changed over the years though, Mike Brown delivered a very interesting answer, hinting at a change in style for the Knicks, which could perhaps involve Josh Hart to the bench,” O’Brien-Pappalardo states.

But, O’Brien-Pappalardo adds that it’s “important to note that Brown did not explicitly say if the lineup would change, or what it could look like. This is purely speculative based on one of his answers.”
