Khalil Mack Set to Leave Chargers—Could a Chicago Bears Reunion Be on the Horizon in 2025?

At 33 years old, Khalil Mack is still one of the best pass rushers in the NFL. Mack only had six sacks in 2024 but 17 in 2023. With the Chicago Bears hiring Ben Johnson, they look ready to make a playoff push in 2025. Keep in mind that Mack was with the Bears for four years, where he found great success. It would make a ton of sense if Mack came back to Chicago for the last few years of his career.

Khalil Mack: Explaining Chicago Bears star's beef with Raiders, Gruden

This is a PREDICTION, not a REPORT

Leaving the Los Angeles Chargers

Despite making the Pro Bowl, Mack took a step back in this new Chargers defense. Six sacks is a far cry from what Mack can do. Not only that, but at age 33, Mack should put himself in a position to win a Super Bowl. The Chargers made the playoffs last season but fell to the Houston Texans 12-32.

The Los Angeles Chargers Will Draft Jack Sawyer to Replace Khalil Mack

Many are confident in the Chargers, but I’m not sure they’re a better contender than the Bears. Their lack of wide receiver depth has crushed them and the defense didn’t play great in that game.

Joining the Chicago Bears

When Mack was on the Bears in 2018-2021, he was a Pro Bowler in three of the four seasons. Not only that, but Mack finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting for the 2018 season. Right now, Mack is listed as an outside linebacker, but I would move him back to EDGE in order to pair with Montez Sweat.

The Bears currently have DeMarcus Walker, opposite of Sweat, but he’s been fairly disappointing for the last few years. Since 2020, Walker has been putting him in some lackluster PFF grades. Walker has scored 54.1, 60.5, 72.8, 59.1 and 64.7. Even if Mack starts to decline a bit over the next few years, he’ll be a big upgrade for the Bears.

Ben Johnson Makes the Chicago Bears Super Bowl Contenders in 2025

At 33 years old, Mack isn’t going to get a massive deal, and the Bears have a good amount of cap space. Per Over the Cap, the Bears have over $62 million dollars in cap space heading into the 2025 offseason. With the team looking to make a playoff push, reuniting with their former star would make a ton of sense for both sides.
