When Katie Maloney and Ariana Madix decided to open a sandwich shop, one of the first ideas they agreed on was that their business aesthetic would resemble that of a Nancy Meyers rom-com. Unfortunately, neither of the owners were present at Something About Her when Diane Keaton — a frequent collaborator of Meyers — stopped in for a sandwich last month.
“We both missed Diane Keaton, which sucked,” Maloney said on the July 2 episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast.
According to the Vanderpump Rules star, she was taking a pilates class that morning, while Madix was busy filming Love Island USA in Fiji when the Oscar-winning actress paid a visit to their restaurant — which was even decorated by Meyers’ production designer.
“We don’t know how she knew about [Something About Her],” Maloney said. “She just showed up one day with her son, I believe.”
Maloney said her mom and the shop’s manager were the only two people present when Keaton “breezed in” unannounced.
“I was on my way there,” she said. “I decided to take care of my physical health that morning and go to pilates because I literally have turned into a bowl of fucking yogurt because I haven’t been on top of my shit. I was like, ‘You know what? It’s time to take care of yourself.’ So that was the one morning I decided to do that.”
Maloney continued, “They text me — Mackenzie, who’s our manager, and my mom — they’re like, ‘Diane Keaton’s here!’ I was like, ‘I hope you’re joking, but I also hope you aren’t joking.’”
When she finally arrived at work, Maloney made her mom spill all the tea.
“My mom said … ‘I feel like I was her best friend. She was so nice. She was so sweet. She was so cool,'” she recalled. “She sat and waited for her food and my mom talked to her. She goes, ‘I just love you and love all your movies.’ And she was like, ‘Oh my God, stop.'”
As for whether Keaton was familiar with Vanderpump Rules, Maloney said she had no idea.
“No one asked questions! Which I’m so annoyed because it’s just like I’m not gonna ask her that but someone else could’ve,” she said. “I was like, ‘You know what? You guys are terrible PR people.’”
