Last season, the Kansas City Chiefs had a pretty decent pass rush. This season, it could be even better, or it could be worse. There is quite a bit of unknown with this group as they just wrapped up their 2025 rookie minicamp.
The Chiefs lost some solid players on the defensive line this offseason, like Tershawn Wharton, who signed with the Carolina Panthers on a pretty good deal. But, with whatever they have lost, they have tried to add back, whether ot be through free agency with a guy like Jerry Tillery, the former Los Angeles Chargers DT, or through the draft by adding guys like Omarr Norman-Lott and Ashton Gillotte.
All three of those guys will have a role in 2025, but what that role is seems to still be the question, especially for the two rookies. For Gillotte, he could very well barely see the field, but still end up being extremely productive when he does see the field. He'll start behind George Karlaftis, Mike Danna, FAU, and Charles Omenihu.
As for Norman-Lott, his pathway to playing time is much clearer. In fact, he could have a pretty nog role in 2025, one that was special for the Chiefs last year, but very underrated.
Last season, Terhawn Wharton was primarily a pass rusher. The chiefs played him on 455 pass rush snaps and only 198 run defense snaps. They like him as a guy who is known for getting to the passer. Now, sure, he wasn't elite or anything like that, but you don't have to be when you're next to Chris Jones.
Norman-Lott will take over that role, likely. And when you think about the things he is good at based on his college tape, that role is perfect for him as a rookie. This will allow him to develop, but also play some important snaps next to Jones.
The path to playing time for Norman-Lott isn't as bad as you may think. He can be a contributor in Year 1.
