Kalen DeBoer: Jalen Milroe could do ‘some crazy special things’ with Seattle Seahawks

Alabama football coach Kalen DeBoer said Monday he likes the “fit” of former Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe going to the Seattle Seahawks.

Milroe was selected in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft, going No. 92 overall to the Seahawks. He was the fourth quarterback taken in the draft, after Miami’s Cam Ward (No. 1 overall by Tennessee) and Jaxson Dart (No. 25 by the New York Giants) in the first round and Louisville’s Tyler Shough (No. 40 by New Orleans) in the second.

Speaking to reporters Monday prior to playing in the annual Senior Bowl Charity Classic golf tournament in Fairhope, DeBoer said he’s “happy for Jalen in a lot of ways” to see him get an opportunity at the next level.

“One, he’s just getting a chance to see a different part of the country,” said DeBoer who spent two years as head coach at Washington — also located in Seattle — prior to arriving at Alabama in 2024. “He’s (only) lived in the South, and that’s what life’s all about.

“But I think the other piece is just a fit. And he had told me that he really felt there was a fit with him when he had his meetings with (the Seahawks) before the draft.

“There was other places, too, I think he would have been a great, great fit, but this was certainly one of them he noted. I’m looking forward to really seeing his growth and development.”

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Milroe was a two-year starter at Alabama, totaling 6,016 yards and 45 touchdowns passing, but also throwing 20 interceptions. However, he proved to be an elite runner from the quarterback position, scoring 20 touchdowns on the ground in 2024, 33 in his career.

DeBoer said he has little down Milroe will continue to improve as his career continues at the next level.

“He’s a guy of humility and knows he doesn’t have it all figured out yet,” DeBoer said. “That’s what’s going to allow him to continue to grow, continue to get better. But he’s got the tools.

“He does some crazy special things, things that no one else can really do, especially when it comes to running the football. So I know he’ll keep working, and he’ll make everyone up there proud as us as well.”
