One of the most memorable moments of the Chicago Bears' 2023 season was when Justin Fields walked off Soldier Field for the final time as the Bears' starting quarterback.
The Bears defeated the Atlanta Falcons on the final day of 2023. In that game, Fields passed for 268 yards and a touchdown while adding another touchdown on the ground and 45 rushing yards. "We want Fields" chants rained down at the end of the game while the Bears' quarterback at the time took a lap around, embracing the love that he had received from the team's fanbase over the course of the past three seasons.
It was a moment that confirmed that many Bears fans backed Fields as the long-term answer at the quarterback position. Despite that fact, the Bears have since moved on from Fields in favor of Caleb Williams.
While the Bears' efforts to trade Fields proved that executives across the league did not value Fields as a starting quarterback, a recent ranking of the Top 50 NFL Player sales list confirmed that the former Ohio State standout is still one of the most popular players in the league.
From March 1, 2023, through February 29, 2024, Fields ranked as the 31st most popular player in the NFL based on sales.
It's another example of the draw that Fields has as a player in the NFL. Fields' ability as a quarterback, notwithstanding, his highlight plays captured many audiences, and during his run as the Bears' starting quarterback, it's no question he was the most popular player to ever play the position for the team.
That will likely change next year. Caleb Williams' jerseys have been in high demand this offseason, to the point where Williams personally reached out to a fan who has yet to receive his purchase.
