We haven't heard the Buffalo Bills discussed as genuine Super Bowl contenders in this manner since the Josh Allen era.
Yes, they have been mentioned as a possible candidate, but not to this extent, where some are expecting Allen and Co. to be the ones hoisting the Lombardi trophy.
Getting past Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs is something, we think, the Bills will have to do to achieve that elusive first Super Bowl win, and the jury is out on whether their 0-4 record against the Chiefs will ever change.
But in discussing which team is poised to knock off the Chiefs in the AFC, former NFL receiver Isaiah Stanback has picked the Bills, and the reasoning is the current momentum the franchise has.
"I'm going to go with the team and the quarterback that I feel has the most momentum of late, and I believe that is Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills," Stanback said on Good Morning Football. "I think in the AFC, these guys are strong. Josh Allen has improved every single year, just won MVP of the league.
"Josh Allen and the Bills over the last three years have gone wildcard, divisional, went all the way to the AFC Championship game. I believe these guys are one game away from going to the big-time show."
The Bills can't be ignored, and with Allen in the prime of his career, and coming off an MVP win, coupled with the majority of his offense returning, this does feel like gut-check time.
Last season, the Chiefs were seen as "gettable," yet Buffalo and the entire AFC still couldn't knock them off their perch.
Can they this time around?
Allen and the Bills, Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens, or even Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals, all harbour the intention to finally slay the bogeyman.
And maybe Buffalo's "momentum" will be the defining thing that allows Allen to get his first playoff victory over Mahomes en route to a Super Bowl win.
