Joey Bosa makes shocking move to AFC contender after release from Chargers

Joey Bosa stays in the AFC after weeks of rampant speculation.

Joey Bosa has found a new home after being cut by the LA Chargers. The Buffalo Bills stepped up to the plate and signed Bosa to a one-year deal worth $12.6 million, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Following Bosa's release from the Chargers last week, speculation intensified as to where his new NFL home would be. The 49ers have long been rumored due to the connection to his brother, Nick Bosa.

San Francisco also recently hired former Chargers defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, who Bosa played under, to their defensive staff. Alas, the long anticipated brotherly reunion did not happen.

Chargers could see Joey Bosa again in NFL Playoffs as a member of the Buffalo Bills

Bosa was also rumored to have the Dolphins in the mix, per The Athletic's Dianna Russini. Bosa owns a house in the Fort Lauderdale area that he purchased after getting his 2020 extension with the Chargers. He mostly trained there in the offseasons until having to come to California for mandatory minicamp and training camp in his time with the Chargers.

Per Ian Rapoport, Bosa's Bills contract has $12 million fully guaranteed with possible incentives that can get him up to $15.6 million.

Considering the injuries he's dealt with over the past few seasons, it's a rather favorable deal for the star pass rusher. While Bosa played in 14 regular season games last season, his usual level of play was compromised for an extended amount of time by a hip injury he suffered vs. Pittsburgh.

The Bills locked up EDGE Greg Rousseau to an extension a few days ago while parting ways with Von Miller. As the team looks to finally get over the hump vs. the Chiefs, the desire for more pass rush juice is understandable. Bosa is at least worth taking a flier on in the world where he stays healthy.

From a Chargers' standpoint, they will not receive a compensatory pick for Bosa as a result of cutting him. Released players do not count toward the NFL's comp pick formula. Los Angeles was awarded three comp picks from their 2024 offseason today.

If the Chargers do make a playoff push in 2025, a matchup vs. Joey Bosa's Bills is now possible.
