The New York Giants might not be the ones making the biggest move in the draft—they might be the ones cashing in on it.
With the 2025 NFL Draft right around the corner, the New York Giants suddenly find themselves in the middle of a potential trade frenzy.
According to ESPN’s Peter Schrager, the G-Men—and the Cleveland Browns, who pick one spot ahead of them—have been receiving calls from teams looking to move into the top three. It’s not just smoke either. For the first time all spring, both front offices are reportedly listening.
That’s a seismic shift for a draft that, up until now, was considered one of the more quiet ones in recent memory. Every team still holds its original first-round selection—something that hasn’t happened this close to the draft in a long time. But with high-end talent like Travis Hunter, Abdul Carter, and Ashton Jeanty hovering near the top of the board, the trade buzz is heating up at just the right time.
Giants are listening to offers for the No. 3 pick
Schrager dropped the news Tuesday morning on ESPN’s Get Up:
“There have been phone calls made to both the Browns at 2, and the Giants at 3, with the intention to move up from several different sources telling me there are teams who are looking to get up in this draft to either the two or the three spot—the assumption being it would be for Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter, or the running back Ashton Jeanty.”
That part may not come as a surprise. But what’s changed is how New York and Cleveland are handling those calls.
“There have been teams making calls and those teams [Browns and Giants] are not immediately slamming down the phone.”
That’s the kind of line that turns quiet speculation into real possibility.
The Giants are in a unique spot. With Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston under contract, they don’t have to force a quarterback at No. 3. That gives Joe Schoen the flexibility to either take a blue-chip player—Carter or Hunter—or trade back and collect premium assets in a class that thins out quickly at the top.
As Schrager said, this may come down to whether a team is willing to offer a “Godfather deal.”
It’ll surely be met with mixed reactions from fans. On one hand, missing out on a potential game-changing prospect like Hunter or Carter would be horrifically frustrating—especially if either becomes a star elsewhere. On the other, if Schoen and Daboll aren’t fully sold on either and receive a massive offer they can’t refuse, flipping that pick for a haul that upgrades multiple spots on the roster might be the smarter long-term play.
It’s no secret Big Blue has roster holes beyond just quarterback. If they can move back, stay inside the top 10, and pick up multiple Day 2 picks or even future first-rounders, Schoen will have to at least think about it.
The phones are clearly ringing—at least we think they are. Whether the Giants pick up—or pick someone else’s future clean—is now the question. Either way, there's going to be resistance.
