On Wednesday, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers suggested he would like to play in 2025. The 40-year-old quarterback is under contract with the Jets through the 2025 season.
Per ESPN's Rich Cimini, Rodgers' salary isn't guaranteed. Rodgers 'cap change would be $23.5 million. If the four-time NFL MVP returned in 2025, the Jets would have to give Rodgers a $35 million option bonus.
With the Jets 3-7 entering Week 11 despite Rodgers starting every game this season, it's unclear if New York intends to bring back the Super Bowl-winning quarterback in 2025. The Jets could look to rebuild around a new quarterback, as the team needs to find a permanent head coach to replace Robert Saleh who was fired after Week 5.
New York radio host Brandon Tierney gave his opinion on what the Jets should do at quarterback next season during Thursday morning's episode of The Brandon Tierney and Sam Licata Show on WFAN.
Tierney, an Emmy award-winner, said the Jets should draft a quarterback and sign Daniel Jones if the Giants cut him. Jones would be a transitional quarterback until the rookie is ready to play.
"I know that sounds insane, but Daniel Jones is not drafted by the Jets and not making big money from the Jets because that's the Giants problem," Tierney said via Audacy. "At least I know he comes in, let him take some hits, let him hold the bag for the kid, and go from there. That's actually my plan."
Tierney thinks drafting a quarterback is a faster way for the Jets to reach a Super Bowl than with Rodgers.
The Giants are entering their bye week with uncertainty about Jones' future with the team. He's been the starter in every game this season, but head coach Brian Daboll said they would evaluate who would play QB1 for the rest of the season during the break.
Jones signed a four-year deal (with an opt-out after 2024) worth $160 million in the 2023 offseason. The former first-round pick out of Duke has thrown for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions this season. The Giants have a 2-8 record.
