Jets Reporter Fires off Warning About $1.3 Million Free Agent

An under-the-radar New York Jets player could make some noise in training camp.

Andrew Beck, Texans

Jets team reporter Ethan Greenberg warned fans and media not to sleep on fullback Andrew Beck.

“Andrew Beck, the fullback, I think, has been getting pretty active during the spring as well. Some of which have come from the tight end spot. I don’t know if the Jets will carry a fullback obviously, neither of us do, but Andrew Beck is someone who has a lot of experience in the league, and I wouldn’t sleep on him entering training camp,” Jets team reporter Ethan Greenberg said. “There is Jeremy Ruckert, there is Mason Taylor, to your point, there is Stone Smartt, there’s Zack Kuntz, there’s Neal Johnson, I think Beck is very much in the mix there as well. He has experience as a pass catcher and as a fullback.”

“In Houston, he had a kickoff return touchdown. Someone tried to squib it, he got it, and ran it back,” Greenberg added.

WHAT JUST HAPPENED?! Fullback Andrew Beck has the play of his career on the kick return. 🔥

Beck, 29, signed a one-year $1.37 million contract to join the Jets this offseason.

The Unknown Element of Jets Roster Construction

The Jets have a new head coach and general manager running the operation. That freshness makes predicting the 53-man roster decisions even more difficult.

Are the Jets going to keep four running backs? Maybe five receivers? Will they roster a fullback?

So many questions, so few answers.

Interesting note.

Dan Leberfeld of Jets Confidential Magazine reminded everyone on social media that general manager Darren Mougey’s first signing as the boss of the Jets was adding Beck.

Beck spent four seasons with the Denver Broncos from 2019 through 2022. All of those years crossed over with Mougey.

“Fullback Andrew Beck could be a big part of the Jets’ run game this season opening holes for Breece Hall and company . . .,” Leberfeld posted on X previously Twitter.

Beck, being the first signing for Mougey, could be a coincidence. Or perhaps it was with purpose, knowing what the identity of this new look Jets team would be in 2025.

The green and whites’ heyday was in the 2009 and 2010 era with Rex Ryan leading the charge. The mantra was simple: ‘ground and pound.’ That old Jets team wanted to punch people in the face, set the tone, and run the ball down opponents’ throats.

The organization might not plan on printing out old ‘ground and pound’ t-shirts for the merch shop, but the message seems to be the same.

With an emphasis on the run game, Beck making the roster seems more likely than not. Especially when you consider Greenberg’s observations that Beck has gotten some run as a fullback, H-back, and as a tight end. The more you can do, the more attractive you are to NFL decision makers.
