Jets' Proposed 'Nightmare' Scenario Is Bad News for Justin Fields

We all know it will be tough sledding for Aaron Glenn and his New York Jets this season after trying to clean up the mess left by Aaron Rodgers and Co.

Jets' Proposed 'Nightmare' Scenario Is Bad News for Justin Fields

No one is under any illusions about what the expectations are for the Jets, and in truth, there really aren't.

Justin Fields is the leader of this team, at least for this year, with a two-year deal that NFL.com's Nick Shook described as a one-year tryout, allowing the Jets to part ways if things go south in 2025.

So it is a win-win for the Jets.

However, for Bleacher Report, which describes the Jets' season as a nightmare, Fields fails to show up at all, and New York again props up the AFC East.

"Justin Fields doesn't take a leap while Maye does, and the Jets again become the clear-cut bottom-feeders in the division," Bleacher Report writes.

Now, is that really a nightmare season? We hardly think so.

Based on how the Jets structured Fields' contract, it is easy to envision the franchise not being completely sold on Justin as the starter, and if he bombs, then New York will have another high draft pick to go quarterback hunting with next offseason.

Yes, having Fields elevate his game under the guidance of Tanner Engstrand would be ideal, but it isn't the end of the world if he doesn't, because the Jets have things in place to move on from Justin if it doesn't work out.

Granted, Glenn would want to win more games, but finishing last in the division and Fields failing isn't a nightmare scenario (we think), more so one something that some believe has a legitimate chance of happening.

And if it does, the Jets will dust themselves off and get back on the quarterback horse next offseason.
