Jets Predicted to Give Fields Big Target in Draft

One of the problems with the New York Jets last season was that they did not convert enough third downs to keep the offense on the field and the defense on the sideline. Accordingly, with new quarterback Justin Fields, the Jets and Aaron Glenn need to concentrate on making more first downs.

New York Jets to sign QB Justin Fields, according to reports

The best tool for a third-down conversion is a true tight end that can either get out in front and block or run into the formation and catch a pass that extends the drive.

The Jets should draft the best tight end in the draft at seven. That would be Tyler Warren of Penn State.

Warren can lineup on the line as a traditional tight end or line up as an H-back and come out of the backfield like a running back and catch the ball and turn up field.  The Jets would do better with Warren than an offensive lineman who might be able to protect Fields in the first round. They can find a good right tackle in the second round.

It might be a tough decision for the Jets, but with WIll Campbell and Armand Membou potentially off the board, New York needs to assemble weapons around Fields before addressing the line of scrimmage.

Warren caught 104 balls last season for the Nittany Lions for 1,233 yards in leading Penn State to the College Football Playoff National Semifinals. He would cut the field in quadrants for Fields as he has the ability to draw double coverage in the middle of the field and give the quarterback other options as well.
