Jets Move into 'Quarterback Abyss' With NFL's Worst Situation

The New York Jets' new regime isn't wasting time cutting the deadwood from the franchise, with general manager Darren Mougey and head Aaron Glenn making the decision to part ways with Aaron Rodgers.

Jets Move into 'Quarterback Abyss' With NFL's Worst Situation

While there were many reasons why the franchise moved on, with his on-field play not what many thought was perhaps the key one, now the Jets have a huge problem at the position.

Was Rodgers a top quarterback? No, but he was better than half the league last season. Now, the Jets, as things stand, have Tyrod Taylor and Jordan Travis as their quarterbacks in 2025.

Barring some free agent signing, the Jets, as The 33rd Team writes, aren't in the best quarterback position in 2025, ranking them 30th out of 32 teams.

"Rodgers won’t be back, so the Jets will be wandering into the quarterback abyss this offseason," The 33rd Team writes. "Tyrod Taylor could stay as a bridge option. Since it’s the Jets, a desperation reunion with Darnold seems unlikely, which means the team will have to get creative to fill the position this offseason."

"Desperation''? That sounds about right - and whether we rank 'em at No. 30 or No. 31 or No. 32? It is easy to argue that New York's situation is pretty much an NFL-worst.

Sam Darnold has seen his name pop up for a surprise return to the Big Apple, but in truth, that doesn't sound too appealing and the franchise might look at a placeholder at the position before they can really attack and go after who they want.

Holding the No. 7 pick in the draft, the Jets could do something there, but there's a lot of unknown about the most important position in football for New York right now.

And that the fact that the front office knew this could happen if they moved on from Rodgers and did it anyway shows how keen they were to get No. 8 off the books.

Quarterback abyss is where no team wants to be, but in 2025, that's exactly where the Jets could find themselves.
