The New York Jets received a massive batch of good news.
On Friday, July 25, Jermaine Johnson took to X previously Twitter, to announce that he has been medically cleared from his torn Achilles that he suffered in 2024.
“Just landed back from LA after checking in with my surgeon and my team out there and… IM CLEARED YALL🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 After I was told that, these past 10-11 months flashed in my head and man was it tough. But through Gods grace and guidance I prevailed against all physical, mental and emotional hurdles. God is so great man. So great,” Johnson posted.

Jets HC Aaron Glenn Spoke About Their Plan for Johnson
Ahead of training camp, Johnson was placed on the “Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.”
“While on Active/PUP, Johnson and Charles will be permitted to attend meetings and use the team facilities. Not allowed to practice with this designation, they can be activated at any point once they are cleared,” Jets senior reporter Eric Allen explained.
“Listen, we want to bring him in at the right time. We don’t want to rush that player in, and we have a plan for him,” Jets head coach Aaron Glenn told the media on Thursday, July 24.
“Listen, I told him [Johnson] it’s not about Week 1, it’s not about Week 2, it’s about the longevity of his career. We want to make sure that we do a good job of making sure we do that with him. I tell every player that is coming back from an injury, we have a plan for him, we want to make sure we follow protocol, and make sure that plan works,” Glenn added.

Johnson Still Has to Be Cleared by the Jets
Johnson being cleared by his medical team post-surgery is great news. That shouldn’t be understated.
However, he still needs to be cleared by the Jets’ medical staff.
Johnson starting training camp on the PUP list allows the Jets to bring him back at their own pace. There is no rush.
The season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers is still six weeks away. As Glenn told the media, they aren’t lining things up for Week 1; they have long-term goals for Johnson and will take care of him accordingly.
Glenn did tell ESPN’s Rich Cimini that he is optimistic that Johnson will be ready for the season opener.
“Absolutely, absolutely, but the thing is we are going to put the work in and make sure he is going to be right to go play,” Glenn said.
