Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets have reportedly planned for a divorce with head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey moving into their newly assigned positions.
The 41-year-old future Hall of Famer concluded an underwhelming first full-length campaign with the Jets. It was littered with Rodgers media speculation as the Jets limped to the finish of their 14th consecutive missed-playoff campaign.
After Glenn was hired, The Athletic's Dianna Russini reports that the team was open to keeping him for the final year of his contract, but it would be on Glenn's terms.
One of those terms is reportedly that Rodgers would have to step back from his weekly appearances on the "Pat McAfee Show," which has been an epicenter for extra controversial media attention in recent years.
“I was told that when they had conversations with Aaron Rodgers about what the future would look like, if you’re going to be part of this team you’re going to attend all of training camp,” Russini said on her Scoop City podcast. “You’re not going to do Pat McAfee interviews anymore.
“... They had a conversation with him of, 'If you were to stay here, here is how we would want it to be.' So this to me is Aaron Glenn getting control back.”
Another condition was that Rodgers would have to take full participation in the offseason, which he has not done consistently since arriving to the Jets in 2023.
In 2021, Rodgers' comments in regards to the COVID-19 vaccine sparked significant backlash, revealing the conspiracies behind his decisions to not get vaccinated.
In January 2024, Rodgers implied that late-night host Jimmy Kimmel was connected to Jeffrey Epstein, suggesting that Kimmel and others were anxious about Epstein's client list being released. This was followed by a public dispute and Kimmel threatening legal action.
Throughout the 2025 season, Rodgers made a series of implicative comments about things happening behind the Jets curtain that included owner Woody Johnson's teenaged son, Brick Johnson's, involvement.
