It took a little while, but New York Jets receiver Garrett Wilson got his contract extension this offseason, and got it before training camp, so there were no distractions for Aaron Glenn's team.
With Wilson being an ever-present in the Jets' offense and putting up over 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons, no one can say the extension wasn't deserved.
Now, as part of Tanner Engstrand's offense, Wilson will headline the unit with his former Ohio State teammate Justin Fields in 2025.
But as far as what getting the deal done mean to Wilson? It means more than we know.
“It meant a lot,” Wilson said. “Something that we had been working on for a little bit. We both had discussed how we wanted to go about it. On my end, it was let things happen, handle your business here, and let's just let it happen. And on their end, it was we're going to be working behind the scenes to get it done.
"So, having them follow through on that is it means a lot to me, not to mention I've been here for three years, we haven't won many games. I haven't had, the season that I hoped and for them to still come in here and believe in me and say, hey, we think you can be a part of the successful side of this thing for years to come is awesome. So, I'm ecstatic, man. For real.”
With Garrett now having his future secured, he can fully focus on football and being the best teammate he can be for his team as they navigate what might be a challenging 2025 season.
The first year of Glenn's rebuild is taking shape with a silent approach this offseason, no distractions, just football. This is something that hasn't been the case for the past couple of seasons, but things are different in the Big Apple now, and we could argue for the better.
Training camp is upon us, and the Jets have all their ducks in a row, and Wilson is happy his future is now sorted.
