The Jet Press's Justin Fried believes Deion Sanders leaving the Colorado football program to coach the New York Jets is a realistic option after the 2024 season concludes in college football and the NFL. In this scenario, Shedeur Sanders would be drafted with NY's first-round pick in 2025.
"Woody Johnson will be looking for a high-profile, CEO-type head coach this offseason. He'll be looking for a coach who embodies his team and whose identity is transferred to his players," Fried prefaced before saying, "That's Deion Sanders in a nutshell. He may not be the most likely or popular choice, but there's a world in which 'Coach Prime' is the next head coach of the New York Jets."
Fried believes The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt is onto something including Coach Prime as one of the Jets' offseason head coaching options. Rosenblatt claimed "Prime Time" an even bigger potential circus but pitched it as a possible reality.
"Jets owner Woody Johnson wants to sell tickets above all else, and Sanders is about as flashy as coaching candidates come. The prospect of pairing Sanders with his son Shedeur, a potential first-round quarterback, might appeal to the Jets owner. That’s not to say this would be a good idea — it would become an even bigger circus around here. But it can’t be ruled out completely," Rosenblatt wrote.
Whenever NFL rumors come up, the obligatory mention of Coach Prime's "I'm a father, not a baby daddy" narrative must come up too. Also, he's said he doesn't want to manage egos in the NFL. Let's not forget how connected Coach Prime has always been to the NFL via his NFL Network job.
Sanders doesn't want the NFL. He won't change that to coach Shedeur, Travis Hunter, or Shilo, if the latter even gets a pro opportunity amidst his legal troubles.
