The New York Jets are perhaps one of the most intriguing teams to watch as the NFL Draft comes into view.
With Justin Fields now tasked with leading the franchise in the post-Aaron Rodgers era, the offense needs to fill several needs. A running mate for Garrett Wilson or a genuine tight end loom as possible options at No. 7 for Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn.
But in Marcus Mosher's latest mock for The 33rd Team, the Jets don't select either, instead fortifying the offensive line with Missouri's Armand Membou.
"Armand Membou put on a show at the NFL Combine and should now be viewed as the favorite to be the first offensive lineman drafted this year," Mosher writes. "He would slide in at right tackle, giving the Jets bookend tackles with Olu Fashanu on the other side. Membou could be a dominant run blocker in the NFL, and given just how young he and Fashanu are, they would be excellent building blocks for the future."
While right tackle is indeed a problematic situation, the Jets offense as things stand, don't have enough weapons for Fields.
Granted, some could be picked up in the later rounds, and with Membou, Fields' protection would be solid in his first year as a Jet.
It wouldn't be a pick to get Gang Green fans cheering from the rafters, but adding Membou to pair with Olu Fashanu as the offensive line's bookends would give Fields good protection as he navigates his first year in the Big Apple.
Yes, other options will get fans excited, but in Membou, the offensive line's last weakness gets fixed, and Mougey and Glenn work out Fields' weapons in the later rounds.
