It is hard not to be thrilled by what the Dallas Cowboys have accomplished with their first three picks of the NFL Draft. Between Tyler Booker, Donovan Ezeiruaku and Shevon Revel, the Cowboys arguably got three top 30-40 players in the class depending on who you ask. While Revel has some injury concerns as he recovers from a torn ACL, this class so far as oodles of upside.
There is still work to be done, however. The front office still has not addressed wide receiver, running back or defensive tackle as we approach the final four rounds.
Quarterback may even enter the conversation if Dallas keeps all of its picks. After all, one Shedeur Sanders, son of Cowboys icon Deion Sanders, is shockingly still available. All of Sanders' potential landing spots have bypassed him multiple times at this point.
That has left Cowboys fans worried about Jerry Jones potentially swooping in and ending Sanders' slide. Fortunately, Jones put a quick end to any and all Sanders chatter while meeting with the media following the conclusion of round three.
Jerry Jones says Cowboys are not interested in drafting Shedeur Sanders
While Jones raved about Sanders character, he acknowledged that he is not a fit because the team has a lot invested in Dak Prescott.
"We thought and evaluated him extremely high in this draft," Jones said, via Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "We obviously have Dak as the highest-paid player in the league ... Consequently, with my firsthand knowledge with my relationship with Deion over the years, and I watched two or three ballgames with his son, I know where the character is there. And it is great character. It as an unbelievable character for winning in sports."
And thus, Cowboys Nation breathes a massive sigh of relief.
In all seriousness, it's easy to understand why fans had grown weary of Jones taking an interest in Sanders. Not because he thinks Sanders is better than Dak Prescott, but because it would make the Cowboys an even bigger spectacle than they currently are.
Much like the Deion Sanders-Cowboys buzz that took off in the initial wake of Mike McCarthy's departure, though, it never seemed realistic.
Some mock drafts leaned into that fantasy so much that they projected Dallas to trade Prescott for a king's ransom in order to draft Sanders with a premium pick. Yes, Deion was the head coach of America's Team in all of those hypotheticals. It all sounds silly in retrospect.
It would be perhaps the biggest development in NFL Draft history if Sanders goes undrafted. His toolbox is indicative of a Day 1 or Day 2 quarterback. Teams have seemingly red-flagged his character, but it is hard to explain him falling to Day 3.
It was pretty cool of Jones to give the young QB a vote of confidence, even if it came while confirming that he isn't a fit in North Texas.
