Opening up.
Bachelor Nation fans saw Jenn Tran look for love on Season 21 of “The Bachelorette,” and during the finale, we learned that the season didn’t end the way Jenn was hoping.
While she and Devin got engaged at the end of filming, he called off their engagement shortly after and left Jenn heartbroken.
Now, Jenn sat down for her first post-show podcast interview on “Bachelor Happy Hour” to discuss how she felt during the finale and what really happened with her and Devin’s breakup.
Co-hosts Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt asked Jenn what happened after filming “The Bachelorette” that led to the breakup, and Jenn revealed some shocking information.
“Truthfully, I’m still trying to understand it all,” she shared, “but essentially we had gotten engaged in Hawaii… and then we had a ‘Happy Couple’ right after that, and now when I look back on things, there were so many little moments that I should’ve taken note of and I didn’t.”
She went on to reveal, “The day after we got engaged, the first thing he asked the producers was how long do people stay together… I didn’t think anything of it at the time, but I flagged it as a weird question to ask.”
Jenn also shared another red flag she discovered during Fantasy Suites when she and Devin were discussing where they would live together after the show. She shared that they agreed they would eventually move to California, but once they were engaged, when Devin realized Jenn shared that information with her friend Nicole, he got upset and admitted that he didn’t actually want to move there.
“That was something I kept in my head. Like, does he just say things to make me happy but not actually mean them?” Jenn shared.
The former Bachelorette revealed further that Devin started putting in less effort and “would go missing for 18 hours of the day sometimes” where she wouldn’t hear from him and he became distant and detached.
She also shared, “I remember he was not super happy about the engagement but didn’t exactly tell me why… He never once planned a date night for us. Long distance-wise, we barely talked on the phone. It was weird… It just felt like something was off.”
Joe asked Jenn if she thinks this was all a game to Devin and that he just wanted to win, to which she responded that she can’t speak for him because he’s a different person now than he was on the show. She said, “I genuinely don’t know who he is as a person to this day… but that was the first thing that came to mind and that was my biggest fear.”
She went on, revealing, “He literally told me, ‘I didn’t want to get engaged, but I had wanted you to myself, so I was selfish and I proposed to you because I wanted you’... It’s clear he wasn’t there to win me because he didn’t even try to date me after. The effort went from 100 to 0, sometimes 5, percent.”
One of the last red flags she noticed was that Devin had stopped sharing his location without notifying her.
She said, “He later unshared his location with me… I never asked anything about it, but I think it’s a weird thing… and he did it in a very sly way in which you can stop sharing your location but then it still says that you’re sharing your location with somebody, but every time you go to see, it just says ‘location not found’... and now he’s seen with his ex-girlfriend, flying together, going on trips together.”
When asked if she got any closure at “After the Final Rose,” Jenn shared that she’s been getting closure from now seeing all the things coming out about Devin online.
“Now I have the closure I need,” she admitted, “because it’s not me, it’s [Devin]. [He] clearly has a lot of work to be done and [he] did not handle the situation right or in a good way at all… I have the closure in knowing that the person I met on the TV show never existed.”
Joe then asked Jenn if she was aware that she would be watching the proposal back during “After the Final Rose” while sitting next to Devin.
She revealed, “I was aware that was going to happen. I didn’t anticipate being as emotional as I was, and I also wanted Devin to watch that. He had been saying all this time that he didn’t feel it anymore and felt pressured to get engaged, and I’m like, watch you very free-willingly get engaged to me and get down on a knee and promise me the world. So I wanted him to see it because I’m like, ‘Are you even listening to the things you’re saying on the show?’ And yeah, I didn’t know I was going to break down like that.”
We are sending so much love to Jenn and will continue rooting for her wherever life takes her, including on “Dancing with the Stars.”
