LeBron James will add another record to his name this season if he and Bronny become the first father-son duo to not only play in the NBA simultaneously but also be teammates. Lakers Governor Jeanie Buss, who worked under her father for decades before becoming in charge of the Lakers, opened up on the parent-child dynamic at play while in a conversation with Chuck Schilken of the LA Times.
"You know, I never had that conversation with LeBron or Bronny, but in business situations, I always addressed my father as Dr. Buss. I wanted to keep that boundary clear because that helped us — we weren’t bringing work home to the dinner table."
"So, I think LeBron and Bronny are very prepared for this. And I’m excited for them to have this opportunity,”
The James duo has been one of the biggest talking points of the NBA offseason, with Bronny joining the Lakers as a long-term project who the team will have to develop to get the maximum out of.
As the 55th pick in the Draft, Bronny failure won't be of much consequence to the Lakers' overall competitive health, but his success could give the franchise another young star to be optimistic about. He's coming into the NBA after averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists on the USC Tigers, numbers that haven't filled fans with confidence.
The 2024 Olympics proved to the Laker faithful that LeBron can still be the leader of a unit looking to compete. He averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists last season but if there isn't enough help around him and Anthony Davis, the Lakers will see similar production from their star but won't see a deep Playoff run like the one they got in 2023.
LeBron James Has Waited His Entire Career To Share An NBA Court With His Son
LeBron James has been working on making this dream a reality for years, with Bronny rising through the high-school ranks to become a five-star recruit before going to the D1 USC Tigers. Despite needing to overcome a major cardiac arrest, Bronny made a return to the court, albeit in a different way to protect his health as well.
Now that LeBron and Bronny are teammates, father James is looking forward to suiting up next to his son, as he told 'The Shop.'
"I can’t wait for this moment. I really cannot wait to hit the floor with [Bronny]. It’s going to be pretty surreal for me. That might be the first time I sit back like, ‘Oh, s—, this is really cool.’
"I’ve been so in the moment my whole career that I pray and hope that me being with my son will finally give me the opportunity to pull back and appreciate it." (18:40)
It's unclear when Bronny will get his first minutes alongside LeBron given the time he needs to develop his game still. We know they'll definitely share the court sometime this season, so that'll be a must-watch game as we will be witnessing NBA history.
