Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown played the final stretch of the season and the playoffs with a partially torn right meniscus, per ESPN sources.
Brown had been dealing with knee pain for over a month, receiving pain injections starting in March. Despite the injury, he pushed through, missing only the final three games of the regular season and averaging 22.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 36.5 minutes per game in the playoffs.
The Celtics' postseason run ended with a Game 6 loss to the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals. After the game, Brown addressed his physical condition without giving excuses.
"I don't make excuses," he said. "Obviously, it's tough the way we went out like tonight, but the way we finished the year, personally, the way I finished the year, persevering through some physical stuff that I was battling through, I'm proud of our group."
Brown is set to be evaluated this week to determine whether surgery is required for the knee injury.
The Celtics faced a tough stretch in the playoffs, losing Jayson Tatum to a torn Achilles in Game 4, while Kristaps Porzingis was limited by lingering illness.
During the 2024-25 NBA regular season, Brown averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game for the Celtics. He shot 46.3% from the field and 32.4% from three.
