While the Celtics have cruised to one of the best records in the NBA, they‘ve been a little banged up in the past few games. Jaylen Brown has missed two straight games because of a left hip flexor issue that’s been lingering for weeks now.
So there‘s at least bits of concern about Brown’s status — especially with a big Celtics vs. Warriors game coming up at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at TD Garden. But according to C‘s coach Joe Mazzulla, it doesn’t sound like a huge issue.

“Not concerned,” Mazzulla said on 98.5‘s Zolak and Bertrand show. “He‘s day-to-day. It‘s a strain. He‘s working really hard in treatment every day and just kind of working to get back at it. Not concerned and I don’t think he is either.”
Brown revealed to the Boston Globe that the hip flexor issue has been around ever since training camp and has affected his explosiveness. He got an MRI a few weeks ago and was set to get a second one in the coming days. Brown said the injury has mainly affected his explosiveness getting to the rim as that’s a big part of his game.
Brown played through the injury in the opening six games of the season, citing that he didn‘t want to miss games early in the year. The counting stats have been at his level, averaging 25.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. The shooting numbers are down, though, as he’s hitting 40.0% of his field goals and 26.7% of his 3s.
While Brown missed the past two games, the Celtics cruised to a pair of road victories over the Hornets then Hawks. That‘s the luxury the C’s have as their loaded roster allows them to rest guys even though they‘re missing two starters in Brown and Kristaps Porzingis. The C’s now face a 6-1 Warriors team Wednesday that has been one of the early surprises in the league.
