For the second straight offseason, the Dallas Cowboys will enter training camp with one of the least inspiring running back rooms in the NFL. That hope is that Jaydon Blue eventually asserts himself as the lead back since he is comfortably the most dynamic and explosive runner on the roster.
Well, those hopes might be put on hold after former Cowboys offensive assistant Glenn "Stretch" Smith said on the "Locked on Cowboys" podcast that Dallas coaches have raised concerns about Blue's work habits. The coaches expressed that Blue is "borderline lazy", per Smith.
Widely regarded as the running back to own on the Cowboys' roster in the fantasy football world, Blue's fantasy value is suddenly plummeting following this report.
Cowboys RB Jaydon Blue's fantasy football value is tanking after alarming report
Blue is currently RB41, according to Keep Trade Cut's dynasty rankings. He's the highest-ranked running back on the Cowboys. Javonte Williams isn't far behind at No. 45, while Miles Sanders checks much lower at No. 84.
As far as NFL running backs, Blue is ranked ahead of established names like J.K. Dobbins, Najee Harris, Rachaad White and Rhamondre Stevenson, each of whom have flirted with top-10 finishes at the position in the past.
Unfortunately, it would not come as a shock if Blue's ranking takes a tumble in light of this report. While Blue has an entire training camp and preseason to restore his stock, if Cowboys coaches are already questioning his work habits he has a lot of work to do to earn their trust.

Blue's upside would admittedly be tough to by pass on in the middle rounds, but Williams might be the safer selection at this point. If your choices boiled down to drafting Blue or grabbing your starting quarterback, starting tight end or third wide receiver, Blue might be the lowest priority.
Williams and Sanders are grizzled vets at this point in their respective careers. What they lack in dynamism and burst, they more than make up for in professionalism and an understanding of what it takes to be successful.
If they stay healthy and take care of the football, they'll make it harder for Blue to ascend up the depth chart. The former Texas Longhorn is third in Dallas' RB hierarchy until further notice.
