The Washington Commanders won a playoff game for the first time since 2005 on Sunday night. After a wild game-winning doink field goal by Zane Gonzalez, the Commanders escaped with a 23-20 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road.
Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels once again had a massive game, throwing for 268 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also led the Commanders in rushing with 36 yards on 13 carriers as his NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign continues to grow.
In fact, Daniels did something on Sunday night that only Peyton Manning had done. The rookie became the first QB other than Manning to lead an offense to have zero punts and zero turnovers in a road playoff game, as pointed out by Evan Abrams.
It's quite an impressive stat for Daniels, and any time your name is next to that of Manning is an honor.
Manning's game where he did such a feat was on January 11, 2004, as the Indianapolis Colts defeated the Kansas City Chiefs on the road, 38-31. In that win, Manning threw for 304 yards and three touchdowns.
The Colts didn't punt one time all game, and they scored five touchdowns, one field goal, and turned the ball over on downs in their final drive of the game.
On Sunday, the Commanders had two touchdowns and three field goals in the win without a single turnover.
Next up for the Commanders is a showdown against the NFC No. 1 seed Detroit Lions on the road on Saturday, January 18.
