Highlighted by a beautiful 82-yard touchdown, Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams had a career-high 143 receiving yards, along with a seven-yard rush, on Sunday against the Chicago Bears. On Monday, head coach Dan Campbell did not mince words to say he thought it was Williams' best game.
"Offensively, our game balls were (Amon-Ra) St. Brownand Jamo, both of those guys had huge games and really it was probably Jamo's best game that he's had since he's been here and I'm talking about from run blocking as well as the pass game which everybody sees, so that was great," Campbell said.
The film review by Christian Booher of SI.com confirms how good Williams was in all facets against the Bears.
After the game, Williams talked more specifically about the touchdown play.
"It was really off the safety No. 36. He was flat-footed and Goff knew and you just have to trust him," Williams said after the game of that 82-yard touchdown connection. "He know I'm going to run past him. He know what I can do down the field. Just put the ball in a spot and go get it."
Jameson Williams did not forget special birthday gift for his mom
Sunday was also Williams' mom's birthday. She wasn't in Chicago for the game, but her son did not forget something very important.
The Lions posted a video showing the moment on the sideline after Williams scored.
"It's my mama's birthday, I need that football," Williams said. "Can you write happy birthday on it? It's crazy, she didn't even make it to the game today. It's her birthday."
Lions wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El noted how Williams already gave his mom the best gift, at touchdown. But Williams made it clear he needed the ball, and he would see her that night back in Detroit.
"She told me she wanted a ball," Williams said to Randle El. "But she didn't make it to the game!"
Williams had his moment in the sun on Sunday. Remembering his mom's birthday would be expected even though he was playing a game and she wasn't there, but he made sure to get her a football she wanted too to mark the occasion.
