Jalen Ramsey is a great NFL cornerback. He is past 30 years old now and has a very expensive contract, but when healthy, he has proven to be a shutdown corner. The Seattle Seahawks know well how good Ramsey can be after formerly facing him twice a year.
Between some of 2019 and through 2022, Ramsey played for the Rams. He oftentimes covered former Seattle receiver DK Metcalf. Metcalf was able to have some explosive plays against Ramsey, but Ramsey was his better quite often.
Now there is no Metcalf, but Ramsey might return to the NFC West. The most logical place for him would seem to be with his former team.
Jalen Ramsey's return to Seahawks rival, the Rams, seems inevitable
There is no secret that the cornerback's current team, the Miami Dolphins, has been discussing trading Ramsey for months. He isn't a bad guy in the locker room, and he is still good, but his cap hit goes up to $25 million in 2026 and to $35 million in 2028. He will be in his mid-30s by that final season.
Should the Dolphins deal him now, they would get a better return since the cornerback is 31 years old than if they try to move him at age 33.
The Rams have always been an expected player for Ramsey. He helped the team win a Super Bowl, and Sean McVay remains the head coach for LA. The team needs cornerback help, and the fit for a Ramsey return seems almost too perfect.
The Seahawks could use another outside corner as well, and it might be wise to help Seattle by trading for Ramsey, and hurt the Rams by the Seahawks acquiring him. But there have been no rumors about Seattle trying to add the seven-time Pro Bowler.
As far as Ramsey is concerned, he obviously assumes he will be leaving Miami soon. After posting "5..." on May 27 on X/Twitter, he followed up on May 28 by writing, "For the record btw, i’ve loved every city i’ve played in & the fans who supported! the anger is very misplaced at times but sometimes valid too. (B)ut real ones kno the intentions always solid!... a new chapter awaits."
In other words, every possible sign points to Ramsey being in a different uniform than the Dolphins in Week 1 of the 2025 season. Los Angeles has already transitioned from an aging team (letting go of players such as Cooper Kupp and Leonard Floyd) to a younger, talented one.
The Rams are not going to digress any season soon, it appears, and they will remain a thorn in the Seahawks' side. Should LA trade for Ramsey, beating the Rams only gets more challenging for Seattle.
