Hurts’ fourth rushing touchdown came on his second carry in Super Bowl LIX and the 17th rushing attempt of his Super Bowl career.

Hurts’ touchdown with 6:15 left in the first quarter tied the Super Bowl record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback held by John Elway, who played in five Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos.

The Super Bowl record for rushing touchdowns is five, set by running back Emmitt Smith in three Super Bowl appearances with the Dallas Cowboys.

Hurts joined Elway, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Franco Harris and Buffalo Bills running back Thurman Thomas as players who have run for four touchdowns in the Super Bowl.

In his previous Super Bowl appearance, Hurts ran for 70 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries in the Eagles’ 38-35 loss to the Chiefs two years ago.

By running for three touchdowns in Philadelphia’s 55-23 victory over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game on Jan. 26, Hurts had become the NFL leader for postseason rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with nine. He surpassed the record of eight rushing touchdowns established by San Francisco 49ers QB Steve Young in 22 postseason appearances.

Super Bowl LIX, in which Hurts scored his 10th postseason rushing touchdown, is the former Alabama quarterback’s ninth playoff game.
