For the fourth time in his NFL career, Josh Jacobs is a 1,000-yard rusher as he reached the milestone in the Green Bay Packers’ 34-31 victory over the Detroit Lions on Thursday night. And so did Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs for the first time.
Gibbs and Jacobs joined the Philadelphia Eagles’ Saquon Barkley and the Baltimore Ravens’ Derrick Henry as 1,000-yard rushers in the NFL this season.
Gibbs, Henry and Jacobs are Alabama alumni.
On Thursday night, Jacobs ran for 66 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries. That boosted his 2024 totals to 1,053 yards and 11 touchdowns on 239 rushing attempts.
Gibbs ran for 43 yards on 15 carries against the Packers to push his stats to 1,016 yards and 10 touchdowns on 178 rushing attempts this season.
Jacobs joined the Packers in the offseason as an NFL free agent after five seasons with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders. He ran for 1,150 yards as a rookie in 2019 and 1,065 yards in 2020. In 2022, Jacobs led the NFL with 1,653 rushing yards.
Gibbs joined the Lions as a first-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft. He had 945 rushing yards as a rookie.
Gibbs became the 18th player from an Alabama high school and college to produce a 1,000-yard rushing season in the NFL. The players have combined for 51 1,000-yard seasons.
