Jaguars Will Trade Trevor Lawrence to the Seattle Seahawks to Replace Geno Smith

The Jacksonville Jaguars just signed Trevor Lawrence to a five-year, $275 million contract this past offseason. It may have been too soon, though, as Lawrence has played below expectations. Now this could also have to do with the offense of the Jaguars with Press Taylor and Doug Pederson also hasn’t been ideal and could also be a factor. That is why as Pederson is on the hot seat, trading Lawrence and committing to a rebuild could be beneficial.

This season prior to missing time with a shoulder injury, Lawrence had thrown for 2,004 yards over a 61.3% completion rate with 11 touchdowns but six interceptions. Lawrence has still shown the flashes, and his 71.2% adjusted completion percentage shows that his increased accuracy issues aren’t all on him, and has to do with his receiving core being less than stellar. The interception issues are the biggest glaring issue, and something that needs to be corrected under the right coaching staff. It’s clear though that Lawrence needs a fresh start on a new team to tap into his potential, and the Jaguars need to initiate a rebuild with a new head coach and quarterback duo to grow together. For Lawrence, the ideal team to be traded to will be the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks currently sit at 5-5, and are just coming off a statement win against the San Francisco 49ers. When they’ve lost though, it hasn’t been pretty, and the ceiling of the team under Geno Smith as the quarterback is heightened. Smith has thrown for 2,781 yards and 11 touchdowns, but has also struggled with interceptions throwing 11.

Smith is 34 already, and has reached his potential already as to the quarterback he will be in the NFL, and with getting older areas of his game have started to decline. Smith has shown flashes of athleticism, being able to scramble and work outside the pocket, but it isn’t at the level as some of the top quarterbacks in today’s league. Lawrence is one of those quarterbacks that would come and provide a better mobility factor to the Seahawks offense.

With having a talented receiver group like DK Metcalf, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Tyler Lockett, Lawrence would have a reliable  group to throw to and show his full potential that marked him as “generational” coming out of the 2021 NFL Draft.
