J.J. McCarthy’s surprise offseason update has Vikings fans beaming

In the middle of preparing for his first season as the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, J.J. McCarthy shared some exciting news on Wednesday as he and his fiancée revealed that they will be welcoming their first child into the world in September.

McCarthy's fiancée, Katya, revealed the news on her personal Instagram account on Wednesday with a post featuring multiple photos of the couple celebrating their announcement.

September just got even bigger for Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy

We've already known that McCarthy is heading into a huge opportunity this fall when he's expected to take the field in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears on "Monday Night Football" as the new starting quarterback for Minnesota.

But now we know he'll be going through an even more life-changing event when he becomes a father for the first time in September.

2025 is already shaping up to be an exciting year for the young Vikings quarterback, which is probably a nice change of pace for him after the roller coaster of emotions that he dealt with in 2024 when he helped lead Michigan to a National Championship in January, got drafted by Minnesota in April, and then suffered a season-ending knee injury in August.

McCarthy has recovered well from his knee injury, and after the Vikings let Sam Darnold walk in free agency earlier this year, it's clear that they are ready to start a new era with the former Michigan quarterback starting under center for them next season.

Success certainly won't be easy for McCarthy in his first year as a starter for Minnesota. Not only will the spotlight be on him after the Vikings selected him with the 10th overall draft pick in 2024, but everyone will be looking for him to prove that the team made a good decision to choose him over Darnold.

There's still a good chunk of time before we will get to find any of that out, and by the time we do, McCarthy will be extra busy with his new role as a father.
