It's not even training camp but these Seahawks trades are already aging poorly

The Seattle Seahawks took a huge risk this offseason by trading away star players Geno Smith and DK Metcalf in exchange for draft capital. The move signified a new era of Seahawks football — one led by a strong defense and young talent on offense.

Any shift of this magnitude is going to have its critics. But before the Seahawks even start training camp, analysts are already calling these moves mistakes.

In a recent article, Bleacher Report analyst Kristopher Knox graded some of the biggest moves of the NFL offseason. Just weeks away from training camp, the dust has settled from most of the major transactions this offseason. According to Knox, the Seahawks didn't fare too well.

There were plenty of big moves to break down for Seattle this offseason. Knox started with the earliest of the bunch. He gave the Seahawks a "C+" grade for trading DK Metcalf and a sixth-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a second-round pick and a seventh-round pick.

Knox says that Seattle "likely downgraded its receiving corps, which is potentially problematic with the team taking a big swing on quarterback Sam Darnold."

He wasn't too thrilled about the Geno Smith trade, either. Seattle traded their star quarterback to the Las Vegas Raiders, getting a third-round pick in return. Knox gave the Seahawks a "C" for that move, while giving the Raiders an "A."

When looking at the Seahawks' roster as it currently stands, it's hard to argue with the grades Knox dished out. Cooper Kupp is a downgrade from DK Metcalf, and Sam Darnold is likely a downgrade from Geno Smith.

But these moves weren't just about the 2025 season. The draft capital that the Seahawks received will help them move forward into this new era under Mike Macdonald with a core of young talent.

Seattle used the pick they received in the Geno Smith trade to draft former Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe. If Milroe can meet his potential, he could become the Seahawks' quarterback of the future.

The Seahawks used the second-round pick they got from the DK Metcalf trade to move up in the draft for safety Nick Emmanwori. Emmanwori is another player with loads of potential, and he could become a staple in Mike Macdonald's defense for years to come.

Meanwhile, there's a good chance that DK Metcalf and Geno Smith wouldn't have been on Seattle's roster in two years anyway. If these picks pan out, analysts will quickly start to change their tune.
