The Alabama football quarterback battle remains ongoing, but offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb didn’t indicate much has changed since spring.
Ty Simpson remains at the front of the line. Grubb joined Tide 100.9 and shared the latest on the quarterback battle Thursday.
If Alabama plays this Saturday, is Simpson the guy? That’s the question that was asked.
“Yes he is right now,” Grubb said. “We don’t really deal in absolutes until we have to.”
Grubb also labeled Simpson as the frontrunner at the end of spring practices.
“At the end of the day, if we’re playing a football game tomorrow, Ty Simpson would start,” Grubb said in April. “He earned that. I know that’s the line everybody is looking for. But that is what he earned.”
Grubb said Simpson took care of the football and “operated better.”
“I thought he improved for an older quarterback,” Grubb said Thu
Simpson, in his fourth season with the program, is competing with quarterbacks Austin Mack and Keelon Russell. Mack is in his third season working under coach Kalen DeBoer. Russell is a five-star freshman quarterback, ranked No. 2 overall among 2025 prospects per 247Sports.
“We’re still going to let them compete,” Grubb said. “We still are right now and will again in fall camp.”
