Las Vegas Raiders fans might not want to hear it, but what if Davante Adams’ value isn’t that high? Legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick certainly believes that.
Raider Nation easily believes that Adams is worth a plethora of draft picks or even another star wideout in return. Technically, it wasn’t that long ago that former Raiders general manager Dave Ziegler acquired Adams for a first and second round pick. By the way, the Green Bay Packers emerged victorious from this trade. But that’s neither here nor there if you’re the Raiders. What’s done is done.
The real question now shifts to whether Adams is really on his way out or not. Head coach Antonio Pierce dispelled that notion this week while speaking with the media. However, rumors about the Raiders and Adams continue to circulate. Nobody knows exactly what the Raiders’ current general manager, Tom Telesco, will receive in return if a trade happens. What Belichick does believe is that it won’t be a second-round pick.
In case you missed it, Belichick gave his thoughts on the Adams situation while speaking on Underdog’s show, Coach.
“I don’t see how anybody’s going to give up a second-round pick for him. You’d have to feel like this guy is going take us to the promised land, and that he’s going to get us over the hump this year.”
Belichick certainly makes a valid point. As it stands, Adams doesn’t exactly instill confidence that he’d make your prospective team an instant contender. That being said, it’s the Raiders who have themselves to blame for devaluing Adans to the point we are even having this conversation. Just look at this list: Derek Carr, Jimmy Garoppolo, Jarrett Stidham, Aidan O’Connell, Gardner Minshew, and, oh yeah, Brian Hoyer—yes, Hoyer. This is not indicative of stability, cohesion, or even talent; Adams had no chance.
