Is Brian Robinson Jr. playing today? Injury status for Commanders RB in Week 7

Not having Brian Robinson Jr. available in Week 6 at the Baltimore Ravens was sorely felt. The Washington Commanders couldn't get anything going on the ground, but they felt putting the promising running back in harm's way was too risky when push came to shove.

Robinson's knee issue is something that could hinder the Commanders' encouraging start to the campaign. Things have looked more promising throughout practices this week, but the player still landed on the injury report and was listed as questionable for Week 7 against the Carolina Panthers.

This is a game the Commanders need to win. They must treat this contest with respect considering how Carolina's offense can put up points with early momentum. But it's no surprise to see Washington heavily favored by sportsbooks across the country.

Their chances will be bolstered considerably if Robinson can go. They've got Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols to pick up the slack, but this offense has an extra sense of explosiveness and physicality with the former third-round selection out of Alabama.

Is Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr. playing in Week 7?

Fortunately, the prognosis is good. Adam Schefter of ESPN and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network both indicated that Robinson is trending towards playing. How much he'll be involved is the big question.

It might be worth offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury giving some touches to Robinson early to see how he responds. The Commanders can decipher how much he can handle after that.

If Robinson responds positively and there are no complications with the knee issue, the backfield threat can play a major role in proceedings. The Panthers' defensive front is missing Derrick Brown and A'Shawn Robinson in Week 7. Jadeveon Clowney is also unlikely to participate, so carving up yards on the ground should be no trouble for the Commanders if they adopt the same professionalism and purpose.

Robinson's presence on the field will be a huge lift to everyone involved. Expecting him to accumulate 20-plus carries is a stretch. However, there's nothing to suggest he cannot make a lasting impression if the Commanders pick and choose their spots with the player.
