An insider has shared which NHL team would be the most ideal landing spot for Rick Tocchet, if he doesn't end up re-signing with the Vancouver Canucks.
The Vancouver Canucks are waiting for a final decision from Rick Tocchet as soon as this week on whether or not he will accept their contract offer to become the franchise's highest-paid coach in their history or if he'll be leaving the club for another opportunity.
If Rick Tocchet opts to do the latter, there certainly won't be a shortage of teams that'll be interested in his services, but one stands out above them all for NHL insider Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff
Frank Seravalli shares which team stands out the most for Rick Tocchet
On Wednesday, Frank Seravalli was a guest on Halford & Brough on Sportsnet 650 radio where he discussed a number of topics including the future of Rick Tocchet behind the bench for the Vancouver Canucks.
Seravalli shared that if Rick Tocchet were to leave the Canucks, one team that would probably be the most interested in him is the New York Rangers, which would reunite him with a couple of his former players - J.T. Miller and Carson Soucy.
"Yeah, I mean to me, the team that would stand out the most is the Rangers. I think they're a team that having achieved the Presidents' Trophy a season ago and gone to two Conference Finals in a three-year span, that there's really attractive pieces there. Beyond that, it's Broadway. It's an Original Six team, big money. I think they check so many boxes outside of the volatility of the position. Like, Gerard Gallant and Peter Laviolette didn't last very long and that said, I just think the Rangers have some real upside." Seravalli said.
It may have been a tough season in The Big Apple, much like Vancouver - Tocchet's current employer, but like Frank Seravalli said, they have some solid pieces and that goes for their NHL roster and prospects too.
Add in a prospect pool that has Gabe Perreault - who made his NHL debut at the tail end of the regular season, Brennan Othmann, Adam Sykora and Drew Fortescue, and you've got the makings of a strong team for many years to come.
It'll be very interesting to see which direction Rick Tocchet decides to go, but if he does end up leaving, it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.
