For much of the 2024 season, it seemed like football's worst-kept secret was that the Las Vegas Raiders were interested in drafting Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. However, the team now has a new general manager and coaching staff in place and it's starting to seem like they aren't as high on the idea of using a first-round pick on Sanders.
That was made clear when it was widely reported that the Raiders wanted to trade for Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. It seems like Las Vegas might be more interested in starting a veteran in 2025 and perhaps having a rookie play behind them.
If that's the case, the Raiders are likely to address the position in the second or third round at the earliest. According to Tashan Reed and Vic Tafur of The Athletic, the Raiders are high on two quarterbacks who haven't been linked to the team as much.
"According to league sources, the Raiders came away particularly impressed with Milroe and Ewers when going over X's and O's and film, though the No. 6 pick would be too rich of a slot to take either one," Tafur and Reed wrote in a Friday column.
Milroe is a far better athlete than Sanders while Ewers had a better arm. Neither has shown that they can overcome adversity in the same way that Sanders has but they both could have higher ceilings. Milroe is particularly interesting considering offensive coordinator Chip Kelly's previous success with mobile quarterbacks. If the Raiders skip a quarterback in the first round, it sounds like they could be in play for one on Day 2.
