The Pittsburgh Steelers need to figure out their quarterback situation sooner rather than later, and with the 2025 NFL Draft approaching, hype has been building around the organization using its first-round pick on the position. Some fans are vehemently against this idea as the Kenny Pickett experiment didn't go well after the team selected him in 2022, and this draft class is considered to be underwhelming as well at quarterback. Pittsburgh will be in position with the 21st overall pick to address a need on the defensive line or add another offensive weapon, and that might be the better option rather than reaching for a quarterback.

Pittsburgh has done some extensive scouting on the quarterbacks in the 2025 class, and the organization had both Shedeur Sanders and Jaxson Dart in the building for pre-draft visits. This is a sign that the team is interested in those players, and there is a good chance that one of them will fall to Pittsburgh in the upcoming draft. This has made speculation grow that the franchise will consider taking a swing on the quarterback position, however some conflicting reports have come out that the meeting with Sanders did not go well. Aaron Wilson reported the bad news, which he shared on Texans Today By Chat Sports.
"I've heard he will not be a Pittsburgh Steeler," Wilson said. "I've heard that meeting did not go well. That wasn't from someone telling me that because, and this is always the assumption, that it's someone trying to affect these boards."
Wilson confirmed that his source on the matter was legitimate, and it was not someone trying to take the public off of the scent of the Steelers selecting Sanders. The two sides apparently did not gel during their meeting, although Sanders spoke about the meeting going well during an interview after he left Pittsburgh.

Sanders is an intriguing prospect due to his football pedigree, which is something that Head Coach Mike Tomlin typically falls in love with. It would make sense for the two sides to be a perfect match, but that is not the case according to Wilson. The quarterback prospect was once considered a lock to go in the top three of the draft, but his stock has slid and some believe he will fall all the way into the teens of the first round. This should open the door for Pittsburgh to trade up for him, but that is unlikely to happen if the two sides did not have a good meeting.
Conflicting reports have emerged about this meeting, but the fact that all reports are not saying that the two sides got along is a little concerning. It is hard to imagine the Steelers would pass on Sanders if he is available while they are picking, but that seems like the probable outcome if the situation comes to fruition.

Steelers' Future At Quarterback Seems Bleak
The Steelers have been in pursuit of Aaron Rodgers ever since the first week of free agency this year, but the quarterback has yet to sign as he ponders what to do with his future. Rodgers is considering retirement, and there has been some questions about whether or not he wants to play in Pittsburgh if he does not view the organization as a serious competitor.
Pittsburgh could be going into the 2025 season with Mason Rudolph as the team's starting quarterback, and that is likely what will happen if the organization can't sign Rodgers and opts not to chase a quarterback in the first round of the draft. The franchise will probably try to find some value at the position later in the event, but the players that will be available then are considered nothing more than backups. The Steelers have had zero consistency at quarterback since before the 2022 season, and that trend is expected to continue in the near future.
