How Should Eagles Approach Commanders' Defense Without Lattimore?

When the Washington Commanders made the trade for Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore, they knew the former Saints star was dealing with an injury.

Since that trade, Lattimore has yet to suit up for Washington yet.

He won't even do it Thursday night when the Commanders take on the Philadelphia Eagles. For the Birds, Philadelphia's offense is one of the most lethal in the league and has dominated Washington's defense for the better part of the last four seasons.

While Washington's 7-3 record is a staggering turnaround, the Eagles are still favored in Thursday night's contest. Does Lattimore's injury mean Philadelphia should change their offensive strategy, though?

Absolutely not.

Washington's defense is fifth in the league against the pass even without Lattimore on the roster. They are, however, 28th against the run to this point in the season.

Lattimore won't change those numbers. The Eagles gameplan needs to be the same that is has been - run the football and set up the passing game through strong rushing performances from Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts, and even Kenneth Gainwell.

Philadelphia is sixth in the league in total yards, seventh in points, and second in the league in rushing. They know the best chance to win on Thursday is by running early and often.

While Lattimore provides a strong matchup for the Commanders, it really doesn't matter if he plays or not.

This game will be won in the trenches. Like most NFC East contests do.
