How Alabama softball blew out Jackson State to begin NCAA Tournament

   

Alabama softball started its NCAA Tournament run red hot on Friday, run-ruling Jackson State in the fifth inning to win 8-0. The win means the Crimson Tide will face Virginia Tech on Saturday, in its second game of the Tuscaloosa regional.

UA didn’t score for the first two innings, but came on strong with four runs in the third. Two more in the next two innings ended the game after five.

Emily Winstead earned the win in the circle for the Crimson Tide. Brooklyn Morris took the loss for Jackson State.

Here are the highlights from Friday’s game.

 

5th inning

-- Alea Johnson in to pitch for Alabama.

 

-- Tigers are once again unable to score. Tide can end the game by scoring two runs.

-- Ellestad flies out to center, but it scores a run for the Tide, now up 7-0 with one out.

 

-- Bases are loaded with two outs as Kristen White comes to the plate with a chance to win it.

 

-- Alabama wins the game 8-0. Final run came on a wild pitch.

 

4th inning

-- Tigers manage one hit in the fourth, but are unable to score.

 

-- Lauren Johnson is thrown out at first, but earns an RBI for UA. Alabama lead is up to 5-0.

 

-- Heivilin singles home yet another Crimson Tide run, extending the lead to 6-0 with two outs.

 

-- Jackson State ends the inning.

 

3rd inning

-- Jackson State is once again unable to get anyone on base.

 

-- Larissa Preuitt advances to third on a Jackson State throwing error. Tide in scoring position with no outs.
