To the surprise of many a couple of years back, sports cards rose up in value in the market. The most recent example was Houston Texans’ CJ Stroud and his rookie card that sold for $12,000 in an auction executed by Goldin.
Stroud, the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has quickly made a name for himself as a rising star in the league last season. The Texans rookie quarterback has been lighting up the field, with back-to-back 300-yard passing games and a game-winning drive in consecutive weeks.
The quarterback’s impressive performance has caught the attention of collectors, who are actively snapping up his rookie cards on platforms like eBay. In the first two months of his NFL career, over 16,000 cards of the Texans star were sold on eBay alone, totaling more than $778,000 in sales.
Some of QB’s most valuable cards include a Mosaic One of One Nebula rookie that sold for $14,100 after his breakout game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and a Mosaic Gold that fetched $2,650. Additionally, a One of One Image Variation autographed SuperFractor from the 2022 Bowman University Football set sold for $3,599.
As Stroud continues to impress on the field, collectors are eager to get their hands on his coveted rookie cards, which are expected to continue to rise in value. The young quarterback’s rise to stardom has been nothing short of meteoric, and his impact on the sports card market is a testament to his exceptional talent.
Apart from the short-printed football cards that sold last year, another one has made waves when it was auctioned recently by Goldin. In a listing posted on the auction company’s website, the gem-mint slab containing a Stroud rookie card made by Panini sold for an insane price.
“Graded GEM MT 10 by PSA (88471117). Rookie Card. This is one of four examples of this piece recorded at its tier in PSA’s census reporting. C.J. Stroud—the 2023 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year—appears on this stunning Panini Prizm Gold Sparkle Prizm collectible.
One of the breakout stars of the 2023 season, Stroud was named to the Pro Bowl after passing for 4,108 yards with 23 touchdowns and just five interceptions. Stroud led Houston to a playoff appearance after the team finished with a 3-13-1 record the season before drafting the former Ohio State signal-caller. The limited-edition piece is serial-numbered “22/24,” the listing stated.
The card itself is the 22nd in a print run that consists of 24 copies. Moreover, the Panini card’s gem-mint grade of 10 from PSA increased its value, making it more desirable in the market.
Without a doubt, Stroud’s capital is not only going up in the field, but in the sports card market as well. If he does well again in his sophomore campaign, the Texans QB’s value will definitely blast through the roof.
