The Houston Texans are looking at making a notable move for the depth and potential of their offense in 2025. As far as their running game, the Texans needed more consistency in that category a season ago.
Houston may add a player that most of the NFL has overlooked this offseason during the free agency process.
Texans closing in on signing RB Nick Chubb
According to Ian Rapoport is expected to sign veteran running back Nick Chubb on Monday as long as all goes well with his physical. He's coming to Houston for a visit, and a deal seems likely between Chubb and Demeco Ryans' squad.
This move would make a ton of sense for Houston. Joe Mixon has been banged up at multiple times during his pro career, and there were times last season that the Texans offense simply needed a reliable second option at RB. They didn't have it.
Adding Chubb is a swing on potential, considering his injury history. No one truly knows if he can handle a workload for an entire season, and joining the Texans would hold less pressure than some other landing spots for Chubb.
The former Browns running back has seemingly lost a spot in Cleveland after they drafted Ohio State's Quinshon Judkins and Tennessee's Dylan Sampson in this year's draft.
This is a guy that it feels like everyone has written off because of all of the injuries. And that is somewhat fair. He has had some of the worst luck you can think of when it comes to injuries. But he's confident in himself, and it feels like the Texans are too.
-- Justin Churchill
As Churchill notes, the interest in Chubb this offseason has not felt consistent. Many teams chose to draft a running back sometime on day two or three of the 2025 NFL Draft, rather than signing a veteran running back during free agency.
