The head coach's job may depend on his timing in managing the New York Giants quarterback situation. However, there is a lot that is out of his control.

Brian Daboll is in a tough spot.

The New York Giants head coach enters a pivotal year in 2025 now that he's firmly seated on one of the hottest seats in the league after two disappointing seasons.

On paper, his job seems most daunting because of the three new quarterbacks at his disposal and the hopes that one is the answer to rebounding from an ugly 3-14 year in 2024.

Many expect the veteran Russell Wilson to be the Week 1 starter with another esteemed backup Jameis Winston as an emergency option. But the largest predicament is managing the rookie season of Ole Miss alum and exciting QB prospect Jaxson Dart, who the Giants aggressively jumped back into the first round to draft earlier this offseason.

It's undeniable that Wilson is fit to be the vocal leader of the group, but that may not translate to on-field success. If that happens, Giants fans will be quick to bypass Winston and start chanting for the flashy rookie to get a shot.

Most expect the youngster to be the franchise's next cornerstone after enduring years of quarterback misfortune ever since legend Eli Manning's retirement ... but Daboll has to be careful in throwing him in the fire.

How long can he resist the temptation to put in Dart?

ESPN's Dan Graziano poses the question as the team's biggest concern, but of course, a lot of it depends on Wilson's performance while Dart sits.

Wilson is joining his fourth different team in five years but has been adamant about his willingness to do whatever it takes to help the team.

If that means being the starting quarterback? He's ready. But whenever Daboll decides to hand the ball to Dart, Wilson will keep his chin up and be perhaps the best mentor any young quarterback could ask for in the current NFL.

Nobody is expecting Wilson to roll back the clock and play to the level of his Seattle Seahawks days, but there isn't a real expectation for him to be terrible either. A Pro Bowl nod just last season says that he can still get it done on the field.

But the better Wilson plays, the tougher Daboll's decision becomes.

Dart will get his time to shine at some point this season, but the question remains when - if at all - he becomes the full-time starter fans are desperate for.

With the Giants facing a gauntlet of a schedule, that could come fairly soon.
