Antonio Pierce said he isn’t the type of coach to “bite his tongue” after making a statement and it will be interesting to see what course of action he takes after saying he is going to make “business decisions” with the players that made “business decisions” on Sunday.
We know what Pierce meant by saying his players were making “business decisions” but we don’t know what “business decisions” he is thinking about making.
Pierce could sit players for a series against the Browns or he might literally take into consideration Sunday’s game when it’s time to re-sign and extend players on the roster. Since he didn’t clarify, we don’t know.
Whatever he has in mind, Pierce has to do something significant because the statement he made on Sunday was significant.
Yahoo and Fox Sports host Jason Fitz talked about that dynamic on Tuesday.
“I respect the hell out of a coach coming in front of the microphone and not holding back,” Fitz said on Raider Nation Radio’s Morning Tailgate.
“But now, actions speak louder than words,” Fitz continued. “You just threw an entire team under the bus, right? If you’re going to say that people are making business decisions and now we’re going to, there better be some sort of tangible difference here.”
In other words, Pierce has no choice but to back up what he said after the Panthers game.
There’s also another detail to Pierce’s statements that will be interesting to watch play out…
Pierce is gambling on the notion that his words are going resonate with the locker room. We’ve talked for months about how Pierce has the locker room behind him, and the locker room better be behind him if he’s going to go after them the way he did on Sunday.
Most believe Pierce made a good decision by calling out players publicly, but the team’s effort against the Browns in week 4 is going to tell the real story.
