No one can deny the Seattle Seahawks‘ decision to part ways with Geno Smith, DK Metcalf, and Tyler Lockett this offseason was bold. The real question is whether or not these moves improved the offense entering 2025?
Well, one NFL analyst still believes in the talent on the Seahawks’ roster enough to rank the offense inside the top 20 entering the upcoming season.
Seahawks’ Talent Pushes Them Inside Top Offensive Rankings by PFSN
The Seattle Seahawks offseason purge of offensive talent didn’t convince Kyle Soppe of Pro Football & Sports Network that this offense isn’t a top 20 group entering the 2025 NFL season in a recent article.
Soppe wrote, “Last season was Seattle’s worst Offense+ showing, relative to the league, that we have on file, even with overall production that was a near clone of what they put on paper in 2023. In this era, if you’re not moving forward on the offensive end, you’re moving backwards, and that was the case for the Seahawks under Geno Smith.”
To be fair, Smith did throw for a career high 4,320 yards in 2024 and helped Jaxon Smith-Njigba breakout in his second year in the league with 100 receptions for 1,130 yards and six scores.
Unfortunately, Smith-Njigba is going to have to establish rapport with new quarterback Sam Darnold in a new offensive scheme under Klint Kubiak in 2025 to build off of his excellent 2024 campaign.
Soppe added, “Now, they welcome Sam Darnold and hope that he and Jaxon Smith-Njigba can take this unit to new heights. The depth on offense is questionable (Kupp is their WR2, a role he didn’t look capable of filling for an extended period of time last season), and that has us tepid when projecting Seattle’s future. Yet, the high-end talent is in place, and in a star-driven league, that gives the Seahawks the potential to finish better than the NFL average.”
The departures of Metcalf and Lockett were countered by the signing of veteran WR Cooper Kupp, who has failed to top 1,000 receiving yards for three straight years in Los Angeles.
Both Smith-Njigba and Kupp do their best work out of the slot, which means the team hopes Jake Bobo, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Tory Horton, or Elijah Arroyo will emerge as a quality third option in the passing game in 2025.
Can Grey Zabel Help Unlock the True Potential of this Seattle Running Game?
The real question mark entering the 2025 NFL season is what to expect from Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet this year.
Both have looked like plus-level playmakers capable of leading a potent rushing attack in the NFL at various moments throughout their NFL career. Yet, neither player has managed to definitively establish themselves as the alpha ball carrier in this Seahawks’ backfield.
The addition of rookie Grey Zabel should help stabilize the interior of an offensive line that struggled in 2024.
Kubiak’s rushing scheme looked great in New Orleans through the first two weeks of the 2024 NFL season, but ultimately came unraveled for instability under center.
If Walker stays healthy and Darnold maintains the level of play we saw from him with the Vikings, then this offense has the potential to flirt with top 10 upside in 2025.
Yet, if the offensive line continues to struggle and Walker can’t stay healthy… The Seahawks may continue to see volatile offensive results in 2025.
